Hi Family, Friends, Davenanters, Dancers and Bloggers,
What a great night! Yesterday I was invited to the opening of the George Condo Exhibition in The Simon Lee Gallery, Berkeley Street, London (opposite the famous Ritz Hotel in Mayfair). George Condo is one of America's most influencial contemporary artists and he has recently hit the headlines through his collaborations with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Condo painted the cover of Kanye's album and then Kanye commissioned Condo to paint a Birkin handbag for Kim.
Birkins, which retail for anywhere from $7,400 to $150,000, are one of contemporary pop culture’s symbols of wealth, often associated with celebrities.New York Magazine’s The Cut blog estimates that Condo’s “canvas” for Kardashian probably cost $40,000.
Jay-Z is also a big fan of Condo's work and he has referenced him in song lyrics saying that he wants lots of Condos in his Condo!
The Exhibition was really busy and there were so many people it was difficult to get good photos of the art but here are a few of the pieces on sale if you have the odd £170,000.00 spare!
This one was my favourite and very Picasso ish! Stunning and thought provoking - my kind of thing completely:
Pointing to the very stylish George Condo invitation:
It was lovely spending time with Ben and Lucie's close friends:
And finally - the man himself. Pretending to take a photo of Lucie and Rosie I got George in between them!
Finishing our evening in a local pub with too many rounds of Amaretto - what more can a girl want for a Monday night in the big city!

Wonderful! you all looked wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I would aspire to walk round Tesco with the bag
Some people think the man with the green face is Kanye - a bit scary!
