The day of the wedding started calmly and peacefully out at the Barns. We all had a leisurely breakfast and some of us went for a walk. We all then got ready and headed for the pub for lunch (see photo 1). While we were at the pub the rest of the wedding guests and Paul, Ben and Kenny arrived and the atmosphere at the pub was full of excitement.
After lunch we all walked along the country lane to the Church and took our positions in the pews on the Groom's side of the Church (see photo 2). Paul and his Best Men were looking happy and relaxed in their tweed waistcoats and blue bow ties and when the Bride arrived it was a true spectacle. The Vintage Themed Wedding came to its pinnacle at this point. Polly in her vintage gown and her entourage looked spectacular. The effect of cream and lace dresses with white plimsolls and blue ribbons was so lovely! The service was very moving and there were quite a few tears!
After the service everyone mingled outside the church and congratulated the Bride and Groom and then there was a large confetti throwing ceremony (see photos 3, 4 and 5).
The wedding party then moved to Stanes Farm - Polly's parents house - for a reception in the garden (see photos 6 and 7), speeches, a meal and dancing till the early hours of the morning. The two Bridesmaids made very moving speeches about Polly and there were more tears. The Best Men dressed as lecturers in mortarboards, black academic gowns and carrying canes did an Academic Seminar on Paul that was described over three decades. They showed lots of hilarious photos and told lots of naughty stories but they finished with some manly love and it went down really well with the guests ( see photos 8 and 9)
We were all treated to paella and salad followed by strawberries and cream and then later on there was a huge Serrano Ham, brought from Spain for the occasion by Paul's uncle, with Spanish Omelette and lots of beautiful cheese ( see photo 10).
I would just like to finish by saying a huge thank you to Richard and Julie for their wonderful hospitality and for all their very hard work that made the day so special for so many people.

ReplyDeleteI have been so lucky with the wifi connections. Everywhere I have been, so far, since I have started Blogging, has had free wifi connection and that really helps with getting the information out quickly. At the Barns the wifi was brilliant but the phone signals were not good and often we we could not receive calls coming in or make calls going out - it was difficult. It will be interesting to see if the hotels in Majorca have free access. Anyway, I am glad you liked it and you now know that your daughter and son-in-law did an excellent job!

It was such a lovely day - and I didn't realise that the ham came all the way from Spain... it was so tasty! I'm looking forward to reading more posts on your post in the future :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Isabel, it was a lovely weekend and there were so many ex Davenant students at the wedding even though the Groom went to Ilford County High. Ben and Kenny Wilson were best men, Alison Treacher was Matron of Honour, Michael Wilson did a reading in the church and Steven Packe played Chopin on the organ in the church. Ross Flight, Deborah Kemp, Peter Norris, Ben Taylor, Chris Collings and Tom Lucey were all there. You may not remember some of them but other people from Davenant might. xxx
